Impersonal - Term Overview.
English
This term students
will clarify their understanding of functional grammar terminology and refine their
ability to analyse sentence structure and learn how using noun groups (adjectives)
and circumstance (additional information about how when where why etc.) can
enrich their writing.
The Novel, “Iron
Man” will be studied and comprehension strategies will be explicitly taught.
Spelling
Our program
is individualised and students will be supported to learn words effectively using
the four major strategies. (see our curriculum page)
History
The Year 5 students
will undertake a study of colonial Australia in the 1800s. Students will look
at the founding of British colonies and the development of a colony.
They will
learn about what life was like for different groups of people in the colonial
period. They will examine significant events and people, political and economic
developments, social structures, and settlement patterns.
Science
Our focus
will be on Biological Systems. Students will learn that Living things have
structural features and adaptations that help them to survive in their
environment.
Geography
This subject
will be undertaken next term.
Maths
The focus this term will be on number.
This involves students
learning how to: ·
- Identify and describe factors and multiples of whole numbers and use them to solve problems
- Use estimation and rounding to check the reasonableness of answers to calculations
- Solve problems involving multiplication of large numbers by one or two digit numbers using efficient mental, written strategies and appropriate digital technologies
- Solve problems involving division by a one digit number, including those that result in a remainder
- Use efficient mental and written strategies and apply appropriate digital technologies to solve problems.

Music:
Students will explain how the elements of music
are used to communicate meaning in the music they listen to, compose and
perform.
They will describe how their music making is influenced by
music and performances from different cultures, times and places.
Students will use rhythm, pitch and form symbols and
terminology to compose and perform music. They will sing music in different
styles, demonstrating aural, technical and expressive skills by singing.
Visual Arts
Students will demonstrate different techniques and processes in planning and making artworks. They’ll be asked to describe how the display of artworks enhances meaning for an audience.

Business
and Economics
Students will learn about the types of resources
(natural, human, capital) and the ways societies use them in order to satisfy
the needs and wants of present and future generations.
They will categorisie resources as natural (water, coal,
oil), human (workers, business owners, designing, making, thinking) and capital
(tools, machines, technologies)
- listing the needs and wants of a local community and exploring the ways resources are used to meet these needs and wants
- exploring how Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples’ use of resources reflects their spiritual connections to the land, sea, sky and waterways and how these connections contribute to resource use.
